Reconstruction
of the Meeting House
The house that has provided safe shelter for many years is now itself calling for help. It is no longer possible to operate it in accordance with safety and hygiene standards, and it requires major repairs. Our main goal is the complete reconstruction of the roof and the attic.
We are grateful for your support.
Dear friends, welcome to the website dedicated to the reconstruction of the Meeting House in Travná. Here you will find information about the project and how you can support us.
The Meeting House is operated by the association Setkávání Travná, z. s. People have been coming to Travná since 1968. Visitors from different countries, faiths, and social and health backgrounds come here to experience living together with others, to talk about their questions and hopes, and to discover what they have in common. More information can be found at www.travna.cz.

Our Goal
Our Strategy
-
We aim to ensure that the construction work disrupts the programs in Travná as little as possible.
-
We are planning the reconstruction in stages, so that individual steps can be carried out gradually, depending on current financial and capacity possibilities.
-
We do not embark on anything unless we have secured the necessary funding and professional support.
-
Small and simple tasks are carried out through volunteer work. Specialized tasks are entrusted to contractually secured companies and professionals.
What It Will Cost
Current very rough estimates for the reconstruction of the roof and the attic range between CZK 4–5 million. As the design and preparatory work progresses, we will have a more precise budget. The reconstruction will be financed from our own resources, donations, and grants. We will keep you informed about everything here on these pages.
Progress of the Works
A thorough survey of the current condition has been completed, including a structural assessment, and an architectural study has been prepared. We are currently working on the project documentation for the building permit. Our main focus is the reconstruction of the roof and the new attic conversion. New sanitary facilities and electrical installations will also need to be addressed.
At the same time, we will be carrying out smaller partial repairs, such as replacing windows and doors, interior adjustments, and renewing furnishings and equipment.
In the future, we will also need to finalize the extension, which is intended to include a spacious dining hall, additional rooms, and spaces for creative and educational activities.

We want Travná to continue serving the purpose for which people have been coming here for decades – inspiring encounters within an open Christian community. The goal of the reconstruction is to preserve the house as a safe haven for future generations, while also strengthening its positive impact on the entire Rychlebské Mountains region. We are shaping the Meeting House as a place of encounter (not only) for young people, a space for education, dialogue, and artistic endeavors.

December 2025
We have planned the activities for 2026. The following lies ahead:
-
Repair and complete renewal of the electrical installations in the basement and on the 1st and 2nd floors; for this we have received partial funding in the amount of CZK 334,000.
-
Mandatory co-financing of the approved project
-
Masonry work and adjustments following the new electrical installations
-
Removal of rubble and waste
-
Painting and interior improvements
-
Purchase of a trailer
-
Installation of a new floor, including the already completed mosaic in the dining hall
-
Payment of outstanding design and planning work (structural engineering, fire safety, project documentation)
December 2025
The preparation of the project documentation is nearing completion. Before Christmas, the planned project was presented to the association’s board.

What do you think of the façade design? The covered entrance is preserved, but the entire front is planned in wood, in the style of the original Sudeten architecture. Compared to the first version, the windows have been kept in their original dimensions so that no demolition is necessary.
September 2025
We have received a grant from the State Agricultural Intervention Fund (SZIF) for the renewal of the electrical installations on the ground floor and the upper floor in the amount of CZK 334,390. We expect the work to be carried out in the first half of 2026.
July 2025
We have purchased and installed new concrete covers on all inspection shafts around the annex.
We devoted the spring and summer of 2025 to paving the access road to the garages and building the permanent walkway to the stairs:
Tasks for 2025
There were three tasks ahead of us—unfinished matters from the past that had been preventing us from applying for a change to the building permit:
-
Registration of the water source – completed
-
Resolving waste management – partially completed to the extent that it no longer prevents applying for a building permit
-
Connection of the building to the regional road – burying the downspouts underground and directing them into the stream; excavation, delivery of crushed gravel, compaction, concreting of curbs, paving, and asphalt touch-ups – completed
Nowember 2024
A joint meeting took place at the Building Authority in Javorník, including an on-site inspection of the building. Together with the building authority, we found a way to prepare the project so that our Meeting House can be approved as a whole, even with the extension still unfinished. We plan to apply for a change in the purpose of the building to a public amenities building and for a modification of the original project from the 1990s, so that it corresponds to our current needs and the activities taking place in the house.
October 2024
Structural and static complications are coming to light, leading to a clear recommendation to include the demolition of the chapel as part of the first construction phase. This will help save financial resources in the future. The association’s board has approved this approach. You can now view the first massing visualizations showing what the building should look like after the completion of the first phase of reconstruction.

September 2024
Another phase is beginning – cooperation with the Ateliér JAM studio on the preparation of a detailed project and documentation for the building permit.
May 2024
Exposing the roof trusses – removal of the cladding
For the final design of the new or reconstructed roof, we need to know the exact condition of the roof trusses. There was therefore no other option than to expose them.
March 2024
Architectural Study
We have received the first version of the architectural study, which we are very pleased with—it meets our expectations and the brief we set. The next phase involves incorporating our comments and discussing them in detail.
